My old Polaris PB4-60 looked to be about 10 years old and the motor seized up upon opening up after the winter. I looked up and found this Zodiac PB4-60 replacement after inquiring with my pool company and hearing the estimate over $600 to replace. The pump was delivered in really great packaging with no damage. The new QuickConnect hardware was easy to setup too. Had plenty of hose to replace both the incoming and return lines. The only issue I had was finding out what voltage was in use(should I have looked at wiring setup of previous unit before tossing out).

The unit comes setup for 220 so just hooked it up and when I turned it on it would run for about 1 minute - overheat and shut off. Turns out the outlet was 115 and I needed to reference the wiring diagram to change the plugs. Once completed, my polaris pressure side cleaner has been running perfectly.

It was my first time repairing or replacing any pool equipment and did everything with a screwdriver and knife. If you're worried, I'm confident you can handle it.

I had the original pump that came with our house (same brand that worked at least 12 years) replaced in 2016 by a local pool company ($500). It went out 5 days after the warranty expired in 2017. The pool company said that the work would not be covered under warranty and that I would have to pay full price for repair or replacement. So to save money I decided to purchase this from Amazon and install it myself.

I did this successfully and the pump worked for 4 months until I closed my pool last year. This year when I opened my pool and was ready to use the cleaner, I hooked it up and flipped the switch to the pump - nothing happened. I did hear a buzzing sound for a few seconds and then that quit (same thing as the one from the pool company). This time it was within the warranty period so I contacted Polaris (Zodiac) customer support. After much back and forth and 25 days later, they finally informed me that the warranty does not apply if not installed by a certified technician. In my opinion, these have a quality issue, and in my opinion, I would not recommend purchasing one. And just be advised that if you install one yourself then the warranty does not apply.

Other brands of 3/4 hp booster pumps are available and hopefully I can find one that will not go out after one year. This pump is essentially identical to my older Century 3/4 hp booster, so replacement was a fairly simple endeavor. My guess is 'Polaris' has purchased Century Pumps, but I haven't researched this.As expected the pump pushes out plenty of water to operate my Polaris cleaner. It is however, quieter than both my prior Century booster pumps so maybe they have improved it. On the other hand, the casing that holds the impeller seems to be a low grade plastic compared to my prior pumps; but who know, this may not matter since the motors seem to last only at most about 5 years so likely the motor will go out before the plastic impeller housing deteriorates. It comes with the Polaris hoses and connectors to hook the pump up in-line.I've only operated it,. I've only operated it for a week; if I ever have any premature problems I will update my review.

An exact replacement for my old Polaris that finally gave up the ghost. Used the original connectors with some new thread tape and had it up and running in about 15 minutes. Runs quieter as advertised, especially so compared to the old pump which had a bearing going bad. It came factory wired for 220 and that is what my system was already wired for, which saves money and is overall the best option. I sat the pump on a 1/4 inch thick mat of rubber and it isolated any vibrations from the concrete which allowed the pump to run even quieter. The pressure is great coming out of the pump and pushes my pool cleaner, affectionately called R2-Pool2, with great efficiency and gets the bottom and walls clean in about 1 hour.

No cons here, just pros. Bought this as a booster for my Polaris. Installed myself. Easy install. Quit working after 5 months. Contacted Zodiac about the 1 year mfg warranty.

Zodiac informed me this pump wasn't covered under the warranty since it was not installed by a 'licensed' professional. I asked them what a licensed pool pump installer was actually. Anyway, beware if you install yourself. Zodiac will not honor their 1 year warranty.

Wonder where you get licensed to install a pool pump.Well, I will admit that Zodiac called me today and told me that they would send me a new pump even though I had violated their warranty. So I am revising to 3 stars until I actually get the new pump and it works quietly. Bought on Monday, received on Wednesday (which was yesterday), and installed the last night. Amazon Prime is very handy when you really need sth to be delivered quickly, as in my case. My old booster pump finally gave up after who-knows-how-many years of service (we bought the house not too long ago).

I tried to replace the seals on the old pump and it did stop the water leakage but the pump's bearing may have been worn out because of the grease washed away but the leaking water, together with my lack of knowledge (see item 5 below). The package was well packaged and arrived in very good condition. All parts were included and the manufacturing date was 8/24/2013, just a month ago.A couple of things to share here for the installation (.If you are not qualified to do the electrical work, go find a qualified electrician!!.):1. 110v wiring: yes the pump supports both 110v and 220v. The default is 220v but it's fairly easy to change the wiring to use 110v. Unscrew the electrical panel on the back and you will see the wiring connectors and cables. All cables have different colors. There are 6 groups of connectors, with numbers engraved on the white plastic base.

Not the easiest to see but with you should have no problem finding them with enough light. There is a wiring diagram on the piece of white paper on the side the pump, which shows the wiring for Low Voltage (a.k.a 110v) and High Voltage (a.k.a.

220v, which is default). I only need to change the connection of two wires to switch from 220v to 110v. Don't rush yourself on this and make sure you do it right.

Wrong wiring could damage the pump right away.2. 110v AC power connection (.please remember this review is for 110v wiring only!!!): three wires need to be connected for 110v, black (hot), white (neutral), and green (ground). Connect black and white wires to connector 1 and 6 (doesn't really matter which one to which), and green to the green screw.3. Hose connection: the hose in the package is long enough in my case for both inlet and outlet connections. I don't like too much about the 'Quick Connect' thing though. It was fairly hard to pull the sleeve over the hose so the clip can be snapped into the place.

I managed to do it for two connections and decided to use the pump clamps for the rest two. The pump clamps are much easier to work with.4. Before first start: I unscrewed the drain plug on the volute (faceplate), this serves two purposes. First, you can make sure the water flow is correct by seeing the pool water coming out of the plug hole; second, the air in the loop and pump can be squeezed out. Replace the drain plug when you see water comes out.5.Lesson Learned.: as a first time pool owner I learned it the hard way.

The booster pump should NOT be turned on unless the main filter pump is on, or else the booster pump will be damaged (likely in my case). One last thing I want to mention is the caring of the pump. The manual said the pump needs to be protected from rain and sun. I thought this is an outdoor pump?? Should I provide cover/shade to the pump or this is just a suggestion, not a requirement? I bought this pump in August 2012 and just died on me in July of 2015. It started to get noisier and I noticed when it would shut off it would make a faint whining noise.

Then the pump began to cycle on and off. On for about 2 minutes then off for about 1 minute and so on and so forth. I had an electrician check the wiring. It was receiving the proper voltage and all the wiring was secure. I called in a pool technician.for a fee.to see if he could fix it and he told me it needed to be replaced. I tried removing the restrictor disc on the hose line and that didn't work. All the pressure levels are normal.

Pump never runs dry. I notice all the 5 stars are like.' I just installed it and runs quiet'. I guess they will be back in a few years to re-write their reviews. ORIGINAL REVIEW JUNE 2013 - Outstanding price compared to local pool warehouse store. As other reviews suggested, came with everything I needed to replace the old unit. Had trouble getting the red tabs to fit all the way, but that is a 'user' issue.

Agree with other reviews that encourage any handy person to do the swap job themselves. Frankly, now that I know that Amazon carries Polaris products, my local pool warehouse store is SOL.UPDATED AS OF JAN 2018 While i'm still a solid Amazon fan, I'm less a fan of Zodiac. I am upset that in less than five years I am having to replace this motor. It only comes with a 12 month warranty.

Electric motors should last a heck of a lot longer than 5 years. I don't think i have any recourse after shelling out over $200 for this part (which is now $260). I'm going to look for an alternative make of motor at this point.

    Polaris

Just installed this pump and my comments are:1. The motor was factory wired for 230v; however wiring diagrams for both 110v and 230v are clearly indicated on the motor casing which made the reconfiguration to 110v easy.2. The so called quick connect/disconnects are anything but 'Quick'. After repeated tries, I had to ditch those quick connect/disconnects and plumbed it with PVC pipe and fittings. It is a great idea; however, Polaris should come up with a better design. Do not waste time with those quick connect/disconnects.3.

    Pb4 Booster Pump Seal Kit

I wish Polaris' had supplied two 'push' type wire termination connectors with side entry similar to the ones used in the motor for the easy of terminating the power supply wires. Neither Home Deport nor Lowes carries that type connectors.4. The new Polaris pump is a lot noisier than my almost 30 years old original Polaris pump. It is even louder than the bigger filtration pump I have. I checked the name plates and found, the new pump was made in Mexico and the original pump was made in USA by 'Gould'.

I guess, they don't make things like they used to.5. I think I'm being generous giving it a 3 stars rating. The product arrived on time. However, the plastic plug for the electrical hole would not unscrew.

The unit must have been stored in, or was exposed to, high temperatures. It was as if the plug was melted into the hole. Using a flat head screwdriver only cut through the plug like a hot knife in butter. I used a drill to bore a hole through the plastic plug, so the wires could be pulled through. And then I used electrical tape to waterproof the conduit to the pump. Other than that, the pump works as advertised. It is quieter than the Hayward pump that I had before.
